What this workflow improves
How it fits a work week
A flexible plan with fast fallback tools beats a rigid calendar that breaks the first time a meeting overruns. Mealyno gives you the plan and the list, and the diary tools for the days that go differently.
The routine
Plan once, shop once, cook in two sessions. The steps are small because small steps survive a busy week.
- Sunday: generate or repeat a plan, replace two meals, save the list.
- Shop from the grouped list, protein and pantry first.
- Cook proteins and grains in bulk, then top up midweek.
- On off-plan days, scan a barcode or a plate and keep going.
What to skip
Skip variety for its own sake. Repeating a week you liked is faster to shop and prep, and the numbers already work. Rotate one protein or one sauce when you get bored.
Where to start
Pick one plan and repeat it for two weeks. The first week is about learning the shop and the prep. The second is where the routine starts to feel fast. Only then change meals or diet type.
Who it is not for
If you eat out most days, a plan and a shopping list will help less than fast logging will. In that case the barcode and photo tools, plus a protein target, do most of the work. If you take medication or manage a health condition, ask a doctor or a registered dietitian before you change how you eat.
Worked example: what a prepped week costs in time
The time budget of the prep routine on our meal prep page, for one high-protein week.
| Task | Time |
|---|---|
| Plan and save the list | 20 min |
| Session one: cook proteins and grains | about 2 h |
| Session two: fish and vegetables, refill | about 45 min |
| Assemble breakfast and pack lunch, 7 days | about 35 min |
| Total for the week | about 3 h 40 min |
The shopping list for a 1,500 kcal high-protein week has 29 items, and the plan has 28 different meals across seven days. Times are a guide and depend on your kitchen.

Questions
- How long does weekly prep take?
- Around three to four hours in total for a full week, split across two cooking sessions and short daily assembly. Your kitchen and your plan change that.
- What if I eat out for lunch?
- Log it with a photo or barcode and let the day total show where you stand. The rest of the plan does not need to change.
- Can I plan only three days?
- Yes. Plans can be one, three or seven days. Three days is often more realistic in a week with travel.
